Community Training

Train local volunteers to run TGO Big Community Workouts and other classes

TGO-Community-Training

Big Community Workout Leaders course

TGO-Gyms-Community-TrainingTGO offers two bespoke training courses, designed and delivered by Ad-Lib Training and accredited by Active IQ, relating to the activation of inactive people on TGO outdoor gyms:

  • a two day course for people with little or no previous experience
  • a one day course for people who already have a level 2 fitness instructor qualification.

Both courses focus around the delivery of the Big Community Workout (BCW) and making the experience on TGO gyms inclusive and non-threatening to the target audience. The objective of the course is to empower the community to sustain regular effective activity. Volunteers are trained to lead sessions observing safe social distancing and hygiene practices. Our courses are for a minimum of 12 people.

The TGO Big Community Workout

The Big Community Workout (BCW) has inclusivity and community at its heart. The main idea is that it delivers 30 minutes of inclusive, fun physical activity. It is designed to make an inactive person feel comfortable, as well as pushing a more active person. It delivers a warm up, lower body, core and upper body workout in both strength and tone. It also provides users with a whole body stretch at the end. It has a unique social element too and ends with an active litter pick to help clean up the park.

TGO-Slough-Community-Training

We developed the Big Community Workout working with Slough Borough Council - it proved a really popular format in our testing phase. We delivered it every Saturday morning at 10am, led by newly trained local activators. We averaged over 30 attendees each week (many repeat visitors). Read our Slough activation case study here.

Sabeena's experience as a TGO Activator

Sabeena is a Maths teacher at a secondary school in Slough and a Mum. Before her training to become a Big Community Workout Leader, Sabeena was already a big advocate of the outdoor gyms. She had seen firsthand how the network of TGO Gyms in Slough were increasing physical activity and community cohesion. In this video, Sabeena talks about the impact in her community of the activation programme.
