Cllr Ian Beardsmore, Chair of the Environment & Sustainability Committee, said: “The beauty of outdoor gyms is that they are free to use and suitable for everyone. You don’t need to join an expensive club to start to get more active. Regularly using the equipment can not only improve strength and fitness, but also mobility, balance and co-ordination. Just pop down to one of our parks and give it a try.”
Cllr Ian Harvey, Mayor of Spelthorne, who oversaw the official opening of the gym at Lammas Park on 6 April, said: “The outdoor gyms are lots of fun and really good for both physical and mental wellbeing. They offer a good range of exercises, and you don’t need experience or to be in great shape to use them. Many people like the fact they are outdoors which means you can enjoy the fresh air and green space while you exercise.”
Georgie Delaney, Joint Managing Director of the Great Outdoor Gym Company, said: “We were delighted to win the contract to roll-out ten fantastic TGO gyms in Spelthorne. Every gym offers something different, and we are excited to work with Spelthorne to activate their potential. Movement is a such a powerful medicine, and we can all feel more positive about our future by getting together and getting active.”
